Here are some of the birds we had the pleasure of seeing on our trip to Placencia and side excursion to Red Bank. We saw others, of course, but these were the ones we could identify from our photos. Most of these were new on our life lists! CommentsBridget Munger 02/07/2012 16:01
These are wonderful. I especially like the the Squirrel Cuckoo-- what an interesting and beautiful bird!

Thanks Bridget! Yes, he was very cool -- wish he would have come out of hiding, but at least we caught a glimpse

Great pics! I will have to look for these birds in Placencia. I am getting around better everyday! Going to have to get the camera going. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Shelby! We saw a lot of these just along the "Placencia sidewalk" in the morning, so you should have no problem seeing some of them too!

Have totally enjoyed following your adventures. I am still in NC; did finish med school and was in private practice for almost 10 years. Now at home with my 14 year old! Our 17 year old is a junior at NC School of Science and Math. You guys are an inspiration!

They are beautiful, aren't they, Jo? We had seen them here on Ambergris Caye as well; in fact, I believe the Cinnamon Hummingbird is the only type we've seen in Belize so far. I want to see some other hummers too, so we will keep looking. We only had the Ruby-Throated in North Carolina also.

The pictures are really great! Emily, are both you and Barry taking the photos? The birds of Belize are so beautiful. What a disappointment that you did not spot the Scarlet Macaw, but next time. The birds you did spot are lovely. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jamie, glad you enjoyed the photos. Barry takes the vast majority of them (which is why I'm in a lot more of them than him), especially the bird photos. Obviously I take the photos of him and the occasional food shot. Thanks for stopping by!
