Our first trip to Belize.
We had been interested in and researching Belize for a long time, but traveling there had remained on the back burner for a long time. This May we finally decided to pull the trigger and take a trip there for our 25th anniversary. This trip is detailed in my Emily's Meanderings blog.
The story continues.
After returning home, Belize continued to stay on the back our minds. We were busy moving out of our house in Efland and into the new apartment in Chapel Hill, which left us little time to think of the future. After settling into the apartment, Barry decided to email Bernie, whom we'd met the last night of our trip, and mention that we were interested in a Belize condo at some point. We liked the resort where Bernie and his wife Doris lived, Grand Caribe, but the last new one bedroom condo there had just sold, much to our disappointment. However, our timing was good as Bernie informed us that a new building called Chico Caribe was going up right next to Grand Caribe, and there were two beachfront one bedroom condos under construction and available. Score!
Before we knew it, we were exchanging questions and answers with Bernie, he was sending us photos of Chico Caribe under construction, and we realized that the layout and location were absolutely perfect for us. We made an offer which was accepted by the developer, Tim, and we were on our way to our dream home in Belize! We could not believe our luck as we could never have done this unless we'd sold our house, but everything was just falling into place perfectly. To make matters even better, Tim invited us for a week at Grand Caribe in order to make selections for our condo. We were getting in at the right time to choose tile, appliances, countertops, and paint colors, plus make any desired changes before it was too late.

August 2010 trip.
We spent a week in this gorgeous and comfortable beachfront condo in Grand Caribe. I felt like a princess when we walked in the door and saw the beautiful island flowers that had been placed everywhere, along with the lovely decor and views of the sea.
