Full Moon View

The full moon is absolutely gorgeous tonight over the Caribbean Sea.  The breeze is from the ENE and perfect as well. Temperature is 83 degrees at 7:15 pm.  This is October?  Oooh yeah!  Only thing not so perfect is my back, which I wrenched getting out of a swivel chair on Sunday night.  I've been pretty much down for the count ever since, and have had to send Barry to town to run errands solo for the past two days.  How I hate being on the injured reserve list, as I so enjoy our runs and bike rides.  I've really never suffered from this sort of back pain before, which makes every movement a bit iffy, and occasionally has me wincing in pain.  Even the pool has been a bit uncomfortable.  Periodic icing has helped, though, so I am hoping I'll be mostly back to normal in a day or two.

Thanks Sabrina!

It's definitely better tonight...but this is the worst back pain I've ever dealt with. Barry said "Welcome to your fifties!"

Ouch! I did my back playing baseball early in the summer - periodic spasms and shooting pain, which was an unpleasant first. I read that too many crunches with strengthening surrounding muscles groups led to imbalance, so I introduced bird-dog and side plank to my routine. Also started doing more quad stretching, foam roller self massage (but you can put Barry to work on that), and Russian twists. Good luck!!

Thanks David -- I had been doing regular Pilates before coming down here (including side planks, etc.) but had grown a bit lax in my routine since arriving here in Belize. I have a foam roller but had to leave that behind at my Mom's since there was no more room. Once I get this thing healed up, I'll start up the strengthening exercises. It is getting better every day. Today, more heat and gentle stretching. Thanks for your comments and glad your back is feeling better!

    Emily & Barry

We're an adventurous couple, married 27 years, who decided to move to Ambergris Caye, Belize from Chapel Hill, North Carolina for retirement.  We built a condo on the beach  north of San Pedro Town and moved in with our Boston Terrier Paisley in August 2011 and lived there until March 2013.  Ultimately, we decided to return to the US, but we have no regrets and MANY good memories of our time in Belize.  We hope our blog might prove helpful to anyone interested in this lovely country.
